Friends of Scouting

In 2011 the Northern Lights Council’s operating budget is $2,614,400.  Of the $2.6 million raised for Scouting in 2011 84% will be spent on unit and program services.  More than 14,800 youth, thier parents & families, and more than 4,000 registered adult volunteers will  directly and indirectly benefit from the dollars raised for Scouting in the Northern Lights Council.

Funding for Scouting comes from a variety of sources in including: United Ways, activity and camp fees, special events and income from the council trust fund.  Additionally, the fall Popcorn Sale and the spring Candy Sale help to fund the council's annual operating budget.  However, these sources fall short of providing all of the income necessary to support the programs and services now offered to Scouts and leaders.

The annual Friends of Scouting (F.O.S.) campaign makes up the balance of the dollars needed. This campaign allows those families who wish to donate to Northern Lights Council an opportunity to do so.
