National Youth Leadership Training June 11-17 at Camp Wilderness
Dear Youth Leader:
Congratulations on choosing to participate in National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Because of this I know you want to become a better leader. The Skills of Leadership will be an important part of the course. You will also have a chance to try out many new Scoutcraft skills that you can use in your home unit.
You and other youth leaders from all over our council will be living, camping, and working together as members of a patrol and troop. A fine staff has been recruited for training and is eagerly waiting for your arrival. Because of the special nature of this course, we ask that every participant remain in camp the entire week. The Course Director, Sheila Herman or the Course Registrar, Kevin Murphy, MUST approve any exceptions to this at least one week PRIOR to the course.
Attached are the NYLT Honor Agreement – Parent/Guardian Consent – Unit Leader Recommendation, Personal Resource Questionnaire, and Knowledge of Outdoor Skills forms. Complete these forms in a neat, legible manner. Email or send them with sufficient postage to:
Kevin Murphy 1102 Sunset Drive, Grand Forks, ND 58201-6858
These forms must be in my hands by June 7. 2017. Your acceptance to NYLT is contingent
on your completing the forms fully and getting them to me by the due date.
We also require your Annual Health and Medical Record form (parts A, B, and C). It must be dated after June 1, 2016. Either mail it to me or bring it with to NYLT. You may want to give me a copy of the form and keep the original for yourself.
Check in will be from 11:00 AM to noon at Camp Wilderness on June 11. Please plan ahead and arrive early. Lunch will be provided.
Pack light! All your gear must fit in a single backpack. You will be carrying all your personal gear into the campsites (about 2 miles) over rugged terrain. Each participant must have his/her own tent. You will not be able to share equipment with other members of your home unit. Check the FAQ area on the website for other suggestions on what to pack.
I am very excited about this conference. After seeing the quality of the Youth Leaders who have already signed up, and the excellent staff, I am positive this course will be a great experience.
