VOLUNTEER LEADERS RECOGNIZED AT DISTRICT DINNER

Congratulations to Brenda Wolf and Larry Gilge, this year’s recipients of the District Awards of Merit. Also, Congratulations to Brenda Wolf for receiving the J. Paul Klinger Memorial Award. Both Brenda and Larry are dedicated Scouters and community leaders, and their devotion to the welfare of youth is well deserving of recognition. Congratulations to Stan Cox and Dave Stoddart for receiving the Scouter Training Award. Anne Waite was awarded the Sparkplug Award.

SPRING RECRUITMENT

This year, Spring recruitment will be held in a number of Packs and Troops who will be increasing their ranks when it tends to be much more pleasant to do outdoor activities. For Packs, please forward your May Pack meeting date to the District Executive so for coordinating purposes.

CANDY SALES A GREAT SUCCESS

Pending a final audit, District candy sales will be up by about 20% this year over last. Congratulations to Troops 134, 144, and 100, and Packs 538, 575, 136 and 540 for significantly increasing their sales over last year. Generally units agreed that the new product was a welcome change, and that the sale was quite simple to conduct and worthwhile. With several of the new units that sold, it was often a matter of giving the boys a chance to sell, and they found out it was worth it and fun.

FRIENDS OF SCOUTING

If you have not yet lined up a presenter or set a date for the annual Friends of Scouting presentation to take place, please contact the District Executive.

CENTENNIAL QUALITY UNIT

If your unit has not yet set goals for 2009, you can still do so and qualify for the Centennial Quality Unit Award. For assistance, contact your unit commissioner or the District Executive.

DAY CAMP

Registration for Day Camp was initially planned to be online this year. However, due to some technical difficulties, registrations will be on paper, but payments may be accepted via the Internet at www.nlcbsa.org Please mark your calendars for the Fort Ransom Cub Scout Day Camp for June 6, and the Jamestown Day Camp on July 17-18. This year’s theme is “Time Travelers.” If you have not received your registration packets yet, please contact the District Executive.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD

A big thanks to the units that participated in the annual Scouting for Food service project. In Jamestown, already over 1000 pounds have been collected, and it may top 2000 by the time it’s done. Other towns are also reporting significant increases. Don’t forget to go to www.goodturnforamerica.org and report your service. During this time of flooding, food pantries have been especially grateful for the support they have received.

SCOUT DAY AT THE SPEEDWAY

This year, Scout Day at the Jamestown Speedway is back! Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 27 and come to the Speedway to have some fun and showcase Scouting a bit to the fans. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts who come with their uniforms will receive free admittance.
