100 YEAR CELEBRATION KICKS OFF

Yes this will be a fun filled year of celebrating the 100 years of Scouting. Look at the Northern Lights council web page for information about events and opportunities for your boys and leadership to take part in.

The Council campout on the capitol grounds will be huge. Make plans now to attend June 4th, 5th, and 6th in Bismarck. Look for more information about registering your unit.

NEW UNIT ORGANIZATION

If anyone in the District knows of an organization looking for a program that helps teach the values and leadership that the Boys Scouts strive to develop in young people please tell them about the Scouting Program and then call me so I can follow up with a friendly visit. The more units we have in the district the better chance all of the boys will have the chance to be a Scout. With everyone’s help we can make it happen.

Let’s all work to make sure all of the boys and girls in the Lakes district get the opportunity to be involved in a Pack, Troop, or Venture Crew.
Let me know if you have any ideas for new units in the Lakes District.

WEBELOS

Now is the time to contact those Packs in your area to meet their Webelos Scouts. Scout masters or better yet have you SPL do the calling young boys love to be recognized by older peers. Let’s not leave this one to chance and miss the opportunity to have new boys in the Troop. If possible have a den chief in the Webelos program. Invite them to your winter activities or better yet your winter camp or Klondike event.

CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING

Are your new adults trained? This is an important part of the Centennial Quality program. To help ensure a good program and retention of leaders, get them trained. Fast start and many other training opportunities are available at the following internet link: http://www.scouting.org/myscouting/elearning.aspx Training not only gives the leader new insight into how to do the job they volunteered for it also gives them the tools to be successful. Call Donna Pedersen our District Training Chairman to schedule training. 320 815 2729 or email at donnapedersen126@hotmail.com and she will work to set up a regional training in your town.

BOY SCOUT LEADER TRAINING

Boy Scout leader training is not just for the Scout Master and Assistant Scoutmaster. The Scout committee, Webelos leaders and any other adult that is interested in getting a better understanding of what the Scout program is and how it is supposed to be run is welcome.
It is located just East of Hoffman on Hwy 27 or North of Kensington on county road #1.
Come and join us for a fun and informative session. Contact Dave Pedersen 320 763 4681 or Cindy Van Tassel 218 643 4374 for more information.

 LAKES DISTRICT WEB PAGE

Please take the time to look at the Lakes District Web page. The district calendar will be posted soon so you have a quick reference for those important dates coming up. If you have suggestions or additions or corrections please contact Craig Risnes, District Advancement Chair at 320-815-2288 or craig@CraigRMedia.com.

KLONDIKE DERBY

The Oxcart Trails district Klondike derby is scheduled for the 30th of January. We have a Troop that will be sponsoring the event, it is the Underwood unit. Please plan on being at this fun day. It gets our boys outside and using the skills they have learned. Look for more information as to location and time soon. We will be doing a preregistration to help plan for this event.

PINE WOOD DERBY DISTRICT RACE

The Lakes pine wood derby district race will be help on the 207th of March at the Alexandria Motors in Alexandria. We will race from 1-3 PM. All boys are invited to race their cars they built. We are looking for a sponsor Pack to bring their track and help run the races. Pre-registration will determine if we hold this fun outing for the boys. Look for your units registration form in the mail soon. Please let your boys know about this and get them excited about racing against other boys around the district.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD

February 20-27 will be our Scouting for food drive. We will be looking for someone to be the chair again this year. Please be aware that this is not an optional event for the boys. We all will partake in the drive, whether it is this weekend or one of your choosing. I encourage you to have as close to 100% participation as possible.
We have door hangers available to those units that choose to use them.
