NEW UNIT ORGANIZATION

If anyone in the District knows of an organization looking for a program that helps teach the values and leadership that the Boys Scouts strive to develop in young people please tell them about the Scouting Program and then call me so I can follow up with a friendly visit. The more units we have in the district the better chance all of the boys will have the chance to be a Scout. With everyone’s help we can make it happen. Let’s all work to make sure all of the boys and girls in the Lakes district get the opportunity to be involved in a Pack, Troop, or Venture Crew. Let me know if you have any ideas for new units in the Lakes District.

FIREMAN EXPLORING POST

The Alexandria Fire Department is hosting a new Exploring post. The first nighter was held June 1st. The youth enjoyed many activities that the fire department had set up for them. Look for more information about the Post in the news very soon. They are looking for more communities to start their own Post so regional competitions can be held. For those businesses that have an interest in sharing your career opportunities with young people please call me and we can look at what the Exploring program can do for you.

CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP

The Smokey Timbers camp is the site of the Lakes district day camp July 16 and 17th this year. The location really will make for a great camp this year. The camp fliers were mailed to your home. We will have the Webelos over night if the response is great enough. This includes a program put by Boy Scout from Troop 418. Each Pack attending will be expected to run one of the stations. Please contact Jim Stratton for more information. The camp committee will be contacting you with more information about each activity.

CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING

All registered adults will have to have youth protection training before they can be registered. This includes charter renewal next February so let’s be proactive and get your training up to date. It is as easy as going on line to the web site and to get it done. Fast start and many other training opportunities are available at the following internet link: http://www.scouting.org/myscouting/elearning.aspx Please take the time to do it now so you will be ready when you need it. There is a new Cub Scout program so check it out.

Webinars are going to be offered again soon. Look for a schedule on line at nlcbsa.org. All of your program helps will be in the form of advancement specific activities.  Call Donna Pedersen our District Training Chairman to schedule training. 320 815 2729.

FALL ROUNDUP

The Cub Scout fall round up will be September 16th this year. Training will be at the August Round table. Please have a representative from you Pack there to get the updates and how to’s for having a successful recruiting night. We are looking for a district membership chair this year to help the district with a great fall round up. They will be contacting each of you to offer any help you may need.

POPCORN SALE

It is time to have some fun and make some money for your Packs program again. Look for some new and improved Popcorn products this year. There are also some really neat prizes for the boys as well as special incentives. Popcorn kickoff is at the September round table. Have your popcorn chair there to get all of the latest info.

FALL CUB SCOUT FUN DAY

We will be having a fall fun day for the Cub Scouts on October 10th. The location will be determined at our first round table so be there to get your vote counted. It is a great time to have your new Cub Scouts come out and shoot bb guns, archery and possibly the climbing tower as well.
