NEW UNIT ORGANIZATION
A big welcome to the new Troop in Starbuck. With the help of Paul and Suzanne Codner we now have the Troop up and running.
If anyone in the District knows of an organization looking for a program that helps teach the values and leadership that the Boys Scouts strive to develop in young people, please tell them about the Scouting Program and then call me so I can follow up with a friendly visit. The more units we have in the district the better chance all of the boys will have the chance to be a Scout. With everyone’s help we can make it happen. Let’s all work to make sure all of the boys and girls in the Lakes District get the opportunity to be involved in a Pack, Troop, or Venture Crew. Let me know if you have any ideas for new units in the Lakes District.
LAKES DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY RACE

The winners were 1st place Baleigh Rasmusen Pack 496, 2nd place Hunter Haggenmiller Pack 472, and 3rd place Gavin Pexsa Pack 496. CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP
The Smokey Timbers camp is the site of the Lakes District day camp this year. The location really will make for a great camp this year. Look for fliers coming out soon to your Scouts. We will have the Webelos over night if the response is great enough. This includes a program put by a former park ranger as well as supper. Please go on line and register your Scouts for the camp. Check it out at: http://www.wesminrcd.org/ click on the Smokey Timbers camp link and look it over. Each Pack attending will be expected to run one of the stations. Please contact Jim Stratton for more information. The camp committee will be contacting you with more information about each activity.
CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING
Are your new adults trained? This is an important part of the Centennial Quality program. To help ensure a good program and retention of leaders, get them trained.
Fast start and many other training opportunities are available at the following internet link: http://www.scouting.org/myscouting/elearning.aspx. Training not only gives the leader new insight into how to do the job they volunteered for, it also gives them the tools to be successful. If you are planning on going to camp you will have to have someone trained on the Hazardous Weather. You can do it on line at the site listed above.
Cub Scout adults will need to get Baloo training to do any overnight or outdoor activities such as camping. The next available training is in the Central Minnesota Council May 2nd. For more information please go to the following site http://www.bsacmc.org/2009_BALOO_Flyer.pdf
Call Donna Pedersen, our District Training Chairman, to schedule training. 320 815 2729.
FRIENDS OF SCOUTING
If you have your Blue and Gold or Court of Honor scheduled and have not been contacted by Wilma please let me know. This is an important opportunity to support Scouting financially.
ON LINE EVENT REGISTRATION
Lakes District has the privilege of being chosen to help develop and test the pilot program for on line registration in district events. Look for the link on the home page nlcbsa.org. Follow the instructions for each event you want to register your unit in. There is an option as to how you would like to pay after you have completed the process. We hope this will help to make the best use of your volunteer time. Please feel free to send me your comments and any ideas that could make it easier or more informative.
