WEBELOS TO SCOUT TRANSITION - PLAN
Getting boys to cross over into Boy Scouts is not an easy task. However, the Boy Scouts of America National office has provided Scouters with A Year-Round Guide to Boy Scout Recruiting. This guide explains the steps necessary for both Troops and Packs to ensure a great Webelos transition. For the month of August, the following step should be done:
August
-
Get names, addresses, and telephone numbers of second year Webelos Scouts. Record the information. Person responsible; Troop Committee member, Cubmaster, Webelos Den Leader
-
Plan a joint Boy Scout, troop-Webelos den camping trip for October. Person responsible; Scoutmaster, Patrol Leaders Council, Cubmaster, Webelos Den Leader.
-
Plan a program of upcoming events to present at a Webelos den meeting visit in November. Person Responsible; Troop Committee member
Select a den chief for each Webelos Den. Person responsible; Scoutmaster, Senior Patrol Leader, Cubmaster
Download the entire Webelos to Scout Transition Plan on the district web page

YOUTH APPLICATIONS
Many second-year Webelos Scouts are crossing over into Troops, which means they need to complete out a Boy Scout application. An application needs to be completed and returned to the Northern Lights Service Center, before each new Scout can earn advancement.
UNIT COMMISSIONERS
The Northern Sky District is currently looking for Unit Commissioners. Do you know anyone who has Scouting experience that would like to help units thrive and succeed? Commissioners serve a very important role by offering support and resources to ensure each Scout has a quality Scouting experience. If you or anyone you know would like more information on being a unit commissioner please contact District Commissioner Norma Osten (235-8270) or Cory Holen at the Scout Service Center.
ANNUAL PROGRAM PLANNING
This time of year is ideal for your Pack/Troop/Crew Annual Program Planning. Planning your unit’s program is essential in making sure your year has enough fun-filled activities to keep Scouts excited, and also ensures your budget for the expenses your unit will endure. Program Planning should take place in the form of a meeting with Parents, Committee Members, and the boys in your unit. You should brainstorm all of the activities you did in the past and would like to do again. Put all of these ideas on a flip chart. Then, brainstorm the activities you have never done before and would like to incorporate into your program. Once you have your completed list, simply start plugging those programs, as well as the costs, into each month of your Scouting year. Don’t forget to have school calendars and the Council calendar (which is currently available online) handy so you don’t overlap programs. We have budget planners available to help you in this process. These can be emailed out electronically and will assist you with this program planning meeting. Feel free to contact Cory at 293-5011 to ask for one of these.
*Please make an effort to hold a program planning meeting. This will make a huge difference in how your program and Scout year is run.
* Make your unit calendar available to new parents when their son joins your pack or troop.

Streets Alive will be for walkers, bikers, runners, skaters, etc. as the only means of transportation along routes that include downtown Fargo-Moorhead, as well as Island, Woodlawn, Oak Grove and Great Northern parks.
