Training. Because Every Scout Deserves a Trained Leader!
Training is an important part of learning to become an effective leader. It is critical in assuring success for Scouting leaders and providing the best possible Scouting experience for our youth. Training programs are intended to enhance the understanding of the adult volunteer role in Scouting.
The goal of the Northern Lights Council training committee is to provide all adult leaders with general information about Scouting and specific information relating to their volunteer role in Scouting. Leaders need training as soon as possible, and we strive to make this happen from Fast Start, youth protection training, advanced leadershipdevelopment and supplemental ongoing training opportunities. |
Overview of the Components of the Training Continuum. |
Fast Start Training
Fast Start training is the first step for any new volunteer and is to be delivered immediately after a new leader registers and before he or she meets with any youth member. Fast Start Training is available as an interactive web based program or by video.
Basic Leader Training
The new Basic Leader Training is comprised of two parts: New Leader Essentials for all unit-level leaders and Leader Specific training, which is based on the leader's unit-level position.
Leader-Specific Training
These training courses include leader specific training for Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing leaders; an introduction to outdoor leader skills; and the new Wood Badge course.
Supplemental Training
These training courses include health and safety training, youth protection, BALOO - basic adult leader outdoor orientation, Pow-Wow, and Wood Badge. These are just a few of the supplemental training courses that are available to adult leaders.
