DISTRICT DAY CAMP STAFF NEEDED

Interested in taking part in planning Day Camp for 2009? If you have great ideas to share, and would like to be part of the Day Camp “Team” please consider joining Day Camp Committee. It must be noted that lots of fun goes into planning this wonderful event. The Day Camp Theme this year is Time Travelers. There are many great ideas that can be used with this theme. If you like to have fun and want to contribute to Day Camp, please contact Greta Kovar at 218-368-1429, 218-681-3107 or gkovar@nlcbsa.org.

HOOKED ON SCOUTING

This year’s Hooked on Scouting Campaign is rolling out! Hooked on Scouting is an opportunity to invite boys into the program in the Spring to allow them an opportunity to attend Day Camp and Resident Camp as well as fun summer Pack activities. This is a wonderful way to charge up parents for the Scouting program also! If a boy joins in the Spring, the cost is $22 and this covers their registration fee until December of 2008 and a $10.00 Day Camp Fee. The low cost allows a new Scout who hasn’t been able to earn funds yet an opportunity to attend camp. Assistance in getting fliers to the school and talking to the boys will be available through our District. If your community would like to participate in this Spring Recruitment campaign please contact Greta at 218-368-1429.

ROUNDTABLES…YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS THEM!

All new and seasoned Den Leaders, Cub Masters, Committee Members, Scoutmasters, and Assistants are urged to attend the ROUNDTABLES. Roundtables take place in Thief River Falls the first Thursday of the month. The May Roundtable will be held on May 7th at St. Bernard’s Church in Thief River Falls starting at 7:00 p.m. Do you like trying new outdoor recipes? Then you must come and check out all of the great creations at the annual Outdoor Cooking Session. This session will teach you how to make simple, creative and delicious meals without a lot of equipment or mess! Come and see how you can make a meal in an orange peel, learn how to cook on a coffee can and more importantly….taste how easy and fun outdoor cooking can be for your Scouts!

This Roundtable will include an outdoor cooking session and a year round program planning session. This Roundtable is a must! Roundtables are a great experience for leaders to gather ideas, scouting information, important materials and helpful hints to help improve your Scouting program. Roundtables are designed to provide Den ideas and Pack ideas, so it is important to encourage all Den Leaders to attend. Bring a carload!

CUB SCOUT LEADER TRAINING

With many new parents and leaders joining Scouting this upcoming fall, it is important to consider hosting a training session right in your community. Leader training is an essential part of becoming a leader. If you currently have any leaders in your Pack or Troop who haven’t received training please consider training as soon as possible.

PROGRAM HELPS

Are you using Program Helps? If you are not, you should consider getting a copy. Program Helps is the “Lesson Plan Book” for Cub Scouting. Pack and Den Meetings are completely laid out in an organized form. This book saves many Den Leaders extensive planning, because everything is laid out.

FAMILY FRIENDS OF SCOUTING

It is now the time where the Northern Lights Council is asking for your help to support Scouting. Every year Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs hold a Friends of Scouting Presentation at the Pack Blue and Gold or Troop Court of Honor. Scouting is made possible through contributions made through the community and through families of Scouting. All of the support from Scout families is much appreciated.
Thank you.
