The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916. Its purpose is to provide for boys and young adults an effective educational program designed to bring desirable qualities of character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship and to develop in them personal fitness. Community-based organizations, that have goals compatible with the BSA, are chartered to use the Scouting program as part of their youth work and accomplish the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America on the local level. These groups include religious, educational, civic, fraternal, business and labor organizations, governmental bodies, corporations, professional associations, and citizens’ groups. |
