There are many resources available to help you grow your existing Scout Unit or to start a new one! Each program has its own tools available tailored for that age youth and family life stage.
Most youth join Scouting as Cub Scouts. We also have the largest lists of resources available to support this for a complete list checkout our dedicated Cub Scout Recruitment page.
Troops recruit from two sources:
1. Cub Scouts about to transition into Scouts BSA
2. Non-current Scouts or youth that left Cub Scouts

The Marketing Toolbox is an initiative driven by dedicated volunteers to create and share marketing materials with other Sea Scout Ships.

Membership Fees
Scouts that join during the year will pay a pro-rated membership. To determine the correct membership fee, use the chart below. Remember to include the pro-rated national fee, the pro-rated council fee, and the $25 one-time new member fee.
Annual Charter Renewal
Each year, Scouting units (Packs, Troops, and Crews) are required to renew their charters with the Northern Lights Council and Boy Scouts of America. The charter is the official agreement between the council and your local chartered organization to provide a program under the auspices of the BSA. The process of renewing a unit’s charter reinforces this agreement year-to-year and provides an opportunity to update registration records and qualify for Journey to Excellence recognition.
